Joyce Cannon
McKenzie
January 8, 1939 – April 30, 2026
Joyce McKenzie, “Juice” or “Juicey”, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, departed this life on April 30, 2026 in Charleston, South Carolina. She was born January 8, 1939 in Savannah, GA, to the late Willie L. And Mattie D. Cannon. Joyce was predeceased by her husband of 66 years (Bill), and one sibling, Gloria Bell.
Joyce’s great joy in life came from her family. She delighted in cooking and sharing food with friends and family. And, oh my, was she great at cooking! She especially liked to decorate beautiful birthday cakes, and was known to fry delicious chicken in an electric frying pan for all of us to enjoy during a hot summer Saturday at Summerville Speedway. She loved to hear about each of our lives and to encourage us each day, insisting that we view the “glass as half-full”. In her hobbies, she enjoyed crafts such as crocheting and ceramics, and mostly in helping Bill and us to feel loved at all times. At family gatherings, she always made sure that everyone was served whatever they wanted and whenever they wanted, often refusing to eat herself until everyone else was finished. She passed on much of her cooking skills and enjoyment to her four grandchildren, whom she dearly loved and took great pride in seeing them grow up.
Joyce is survived by sons William Joseph (Bill) McKenzie (Christy) and Gregory Lee (Greg) McKenzie (Clarissa), four grandchildren, William Joseph (Mac) McKenzie, Jr., Frances Christian (Frannie) McKenzie, Madison Taylor (Mattie) McKenzie, and Hewitt Joseph McKenzie, her brother W.L. “Buddy” Cannon, Jr (Karen) of Jacksonville, FL, and several nieces and nephews.
A service to honor Joyce’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 11, 2026, with a visitation preceding at 10:00 a.m., at J. Henry Stuhr., Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Rd. A private interment will follow the service. Juicey will be remembered for her endearing smile, her delightful sense of humor, and always asking if we needed anything.
