Born and raised in Saint Louis, Missouri, Joyce McRoberts East passed away peacefully from natural causes on August 17, 2025 at the age of 98 in Charleston, South Carolina. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years, Calvin H. East, Jr., and her siblings, Robert H. McRoberts, Jr. and Eve McRoberts Spencer along with her parents, Helen and Robert H. McRoberts.
Joyce is survived by her 3 children, Rebecca East Zaccarello (Michael), Calvin H. East III (Donna), and Elizabeth East Skalla; her grandchildren, Christopher East (Erin), Bryan East (Ericka), Courtney East Black, Kathryn Zaccarello Rhoads (Adam), Jessica Zaccarello, John Skalla (Amy), Edward Skalla (Melissa), Sarah Elizabeth Moffat (Ned), and 12 great grandchildren.
Joyce was born and raised in Saint Louis, Mo., graduating high school from Mary Institute (MICDS) in 1944 and from college at Washington University in 1948. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She moved several times with her husband Cal’s career with NCR Corporation and established family homes in Dayton, OH, Los Angeles, CA., Atlanta, GA., and back to Saint Louis, In 1969. Joyce and Cal later retired in Charleston, S.C., building the family home on Seabrook Island, where for more than 25 years, wonderful family memories were made by her children and grandchildren.
Joyce was active on various boards and committees for St. Louis Charitable organizations and institutions. She loved flower arranging and playing tennis and spending time with her family and friends. Her life is a legacy of gratitude, humility and kindness to her family and those who knew her.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at The Church of Saint Michael and Saint George, Clayton, Missouri at 11:00 a.m., with a private family burial. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Mary Institute Country Day School. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr - Downtown Chapel.
