Joy Heyward Schenkel, 80, of Charleston, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest Thursday, January 7, 2016. She was the widow of Frederick George Schenkel, Jr., a former pilot and Lieutenant in the U. S. Navy and was also a graduate of The Citadel, Class of 1955. Her Funeral Service will be held at the graveside Monday, January 11, 2016, in Old St. Andrew's Parish Churchyard, 2604 Ashley River Road, at 1:00 p.m. Arrangements by J. Joy was born November 29, 1935 in Charleston, South Carolina, daughter of Edward Taliver Heyward and Gertrude Boliver Heyward. She attended Rivers High School and Columbia College. Joy was a member of Grace Church Cathedral. She thoroughly enjoyed meeting with her former female classmates from Rivers High School once a month, so they could stay in touch with each other. They would meet at a different restaurant each month.
She is survived by her son, Frederick George Schenkel, III of Charleston, SC.
