Josephine "Jo" Rogers, 90, of Goose Creek, and former longtime resident of Hanahan, SC died peacefully at home surrounded by family. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at Divine Redeemer Catholic Church, 1106 Fort Drive, Hanahan at 10:00 am. The Prayers of Final Commendation and Farewell will be held at Live Oak Memorial Gardens, 3093 Ashley River Road, Charleston.
The family will receive friends Monday, May 22, 2017 in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Northwoods Chapel, 2180 Greenridge Road from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Jo was born in New York, New York, one of ten children of the late Joseph McAteer and the late Margaret Porter McAteer. She and her husband, James J. Rogers, married in 1953 and made their home in Hanahan where they raised their four children. Jo worked as an office manager for several retail stores. As a member of Divine Redeemer Catholic Church, she gave of her time and talent in various parish activities including the CCD program. Jo volunteered in the community with the Friends of the Library. She received the Distinguished Service Award for the State of SC for her work with the Berkeley County Adult Education program where she taught advanced ESL. Her quick wit and humor were two of her most endearing qualities.
She will be deeply missed by her four children, William "Buck" Rogers (Susan Mertz) of Summerville, Ann R. Perritt Rogers (Glenn) of Goose Creek, Edward "Ed" Rogers of Hanahan and Laura R. Brady (Craig) of Charleston; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren; and brother, Robert McAteer of Middletown, NY. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Jim.
