Joseph Yurfest, 67, of The Villages, Florida died Monday, February 11, 2013. His Funeral Service will be held Friday, February 15, 2013 in the Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim Sanctuary, 90 Hasell Street, Charleston at 10:00 am. Burial will follow in Beth Elohim Cemetery, Huguenin Avenue, Charleston. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL.
This amazing person was born on October 14, 1945 in Leoben, Austria, son of the late Isaac and Jean Kibrik Yurfest and immigrated to the United States in 1949. He worked and retired as a systems director from Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Baltimore, Maryland. As former president of the Maryland Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, he would later lose his battle to the disease. He retired to The Villages, Florida in 2008.
He leaves behind his wife of 37 years, Mary Ann Yurfest of The Villages, FL; a son, Jeff Yurfest and his wife, Erin, of Mt. Pleasant, SC; two daughters, Kim Roettger of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Lisa O'Keefe and her husband, Mel, and their two children, Quinlan and Liam of Mt. Pleasant, SC; a brother, Dr. Joshua Yurfest and his wife, Kathy, of Pittsfield, MA and Dr. Paul Yurfest and his wife, Jennifer of Atlanta, GA.
