Joseph Francis Pronti, 70, of Johns Island, South Carolina, husband of Barbara Pronti passed away peacefully on Friday, April 26, 2019 in his newly loved city of Charleston, SC. The family will receive friends and family on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at the J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Downtown Chapel, 232 Calhoun Street, Charleston, SC from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. in the chapel. His Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at the Church of the Nativity, Catholic Church, 1061 Folly Rd., Charleston, SC at 11:00 a.m. Prayers of Final Commendation and Farewell will be held in Beaufort National Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.
Joseph was born on September 14, 1948 in Geneva, New York, son of the late Angelo Pronti and Susan Davoli Pronti. After leaving his beloved hometown of Geneva, Joseph moved to Long Island, NY where he resided for 35 years. In the final chapter or his life, Joseph and wife Barbara moved to Charleston; a town he always dreamed of calling home. Joseph was a proud Vietnam Veteran. He served his county in the United States Army. Joseph retired after a long career as a School Food Service Administrator. He was a member of the New York State School Lunch Advisory Council and President of the Long Island School Food Service Directors Association. He was also involved in many volunteer organizations. Joe loved his family and friends deeply. When you got a hug from Joe you knew you were being hugged.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Barbara Pronti, of Johns Island, SC; daughters: Laura (Steven) Zabo of Savannah, GA and Michele DeYoung (Timothy) of Stewart, FL; son: Joseph A. Pronti of Long Island, NY; sisters: Beryl Ann Pronti of Canandaigua, NY and Carol Pronti of Geneva, NY; grandchildren: Steven Zabo(3) Andrew Zabo(1) Alexandra DeYoung(13) Joseph N. Pronti(8).
