Joseph Bryan Porter

Joseph "Bryan" Porter, 72, of Folly Beach, South Carolina, husband of Margaret Sarvis Porter died Tuesday, December 8, 2015. His Funeral Service will be held Friday, December 11, 2015 in the Folly Beach Baptist Church, 77 Center Street at 12:00 P.M. Interment, Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, December 10, 2015 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.

Bryan was born April 30, 1943 in Horry County, South Carolina, son of the late Jesse Porter and Lilly Mae Cox Porter and grew up on Folly Beach, SC. He was a graduate of Murray Vocational High School and a retired Instrumentation Shop Supervisor with MUSC. Bryan was a Captain with the Folly Beach Volunteer Fire Department where he served for over 50 years and became a Lifetime member. He was also an active member of the Folly Beach Baptist Church.

He is survived by his loving wife of over 31 years; two daughters: Jenny M. Garvin of Charleston, SC and Lynn P. Veal of Liberty, SC; step-son, Charles D. McCutcheon (Lisa) of Johns Island, SC; step-daughter, Kimberley M. Boyer (Lester) of James Island, SC; six grandchildren: Carrie, Amanda, Jesse, Matthew, Emily and Brody; sister, Alice P. Dick (John) of Pinopolis, SC and brother, James Porter of James Island, SC.
