Entered into eternal rest on the morning of Friday, April 20, 2012, Joseph Lawson Laport of Johns Island, SC, husband of Shirley Pommer Laport. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Lawson Laport are invited to attend the funeral services of the former Monday, April 23, 2012 in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL at 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Stuhr's West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway Sunday from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., where a Masonic Service will be conducted at 6:30 p.m.
Born September 28, 1931 in Bristol Pennsylvania, Joseph was the son of Alfred Guy Laport and Willetta Robinson Laport and stepson of Lula Hutto Laport. Joseph attended Trident Technical College and Clemson University. He was a Master Mechanic retiring from Cummings Engine Company and following retirement, was employed by Evans Rule. Joseph was a 32° Mason, member of the Omar Shrine Temple, Island React, attended Faith Lutheran Church and was the Coach of the Morris Acres Dixie Youth Baseball League.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years Shirley P. Laport of Johns Island; 2 daughters, Sheron Oswald and husband Al of James Island, Tammy Roberts and husband Donald of Johns Island; son, Joseph L. Laport, Jr. and wife Karen of James Island; 9 grandchildren, Allie Oswald, Melissa Oswald, Tamara Barber, Stephen Roberts, Amanda Grasty, Toshia Grimball, Michael Gonzales, Justin Gonzales, Ryan Gonzales; and 10 great grandchildren.
Joseph loved his family and will be missed. The family wishes to express their gratitude to all the Doctors, Nurses and Caregivers that have provided so much assistance over these past two years.
