Joseph Edward "Eddie" Jones, Jr., 77, husband of Carolyn Carraway Jones of Salem, SC, formerly of Charleston, SC, his beloved home for 65 years, passed away on Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at the Cottingham House Hospice in Seneca, SC. The relatives and friends of Joseph "Eddie" Jones, Jr., are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, August 2, 2010, in Stella Maris Catholic Church, Sullivan's Island, SC, at 11:00 a.m. Following the service, the Prayers of Final Commendation and Farewell will be held at Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. A reception will be held in the Mount Pleasant Chapel immediately following the burial. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening, August 1, 2010, in J. HENRY STUHR MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. The Rosary will be at 6:00 p.m.
Eddie was born, June 23, 1933, to Joseph Edward Jones, Sr., and Annie McMahon Jones in Charleston, SC, where he graduated from Bishop England High School in 1952.
He graduated from Newberry College, Newberry, SC, in 1956, having attended on a football scholarship. He was an outstanding member of both Bishop England's and Newberry College's football teams and also played semi-pro football. From 1956-1958, Eddie was assistant football coach and teacher at Walterboro High School. He left Walterboro to become Athletic Director/coach/teacher at the newly-built Hanahan High School, where he and two of his player's fathers built the school's football field. Eddie was a member of Knights of Columbus PN Lynch 703 Council. In 1997, he retired from Shoney's, Inc., as Area Supervisor after 25 years.
Eddie will be deeply missed by his wife of 48 years, Carolyn (Carraway) Jones of Salem, SC; a son, Joseph E. "Ebbie" Jones, III, of Mt. Pleasant, SC; a daughter, Dr. Alison M. Jones and her husband, Robert C. Judd, of Greenville, SC; and his two grandchildren on whom he doted, Chandler Reeves Judd and Pressley Katherine Judd, both of Greenville, SC.
