Joseph "Joey" Crawford Culp, Jr.

October 7, 1965 — March 10, 2018

Joseph (Joey) Crawford Culp, Jr. was born on October 7th, 1965 in Lancaster, SC to Joseph Crawford Culp, Sr. and Virginia (Ginger) Bennett Culp who now reside in Isle of Palms, SC. He is also survived by his sister, Shelley R. Culp, who lives in Fayetteville, GA with her partner, Dr. Michael E. Obenshain. Joey was previously married to Ms. Gina Brock of Columbia, SC. and they remained true friends. Preceding him in death were his paternal grandparents, Woodrow and Maggie Culp of Lancaster, SC and his maternal grandparents, Carl and Eva Mae Bennett of Kershaw, SC.

Joey graduated from Lancaster High School in 1983 and attended the University of South Carolina at Lancaster. Following in his father's footsteps, he joined the family business his grandfather started, Culp Heating and Air. Working from the ground up, he was Project Manager, Estimator, and Salesman before the company was sold in 2002. Joey had the opportunity to work for William Snipes Construction before moving to Greenville, SC, to work for General Air Conditioning Service Corp. and later for J.H. Stewart Heating & Air. Deciding to live closer to his parents, he landed a job as an Inspection Manager for Charleston Roofs and Windows.

Joey never met a stranger; he would greet those he just happened upon with a big hello and stop to find out what type of day they were having and throw out a joke. He never hesitated to come to the aid of those who needed a meal, a couple of dollars, an attic cleaned out, a home repair, or, to provide a place for a nap and a compassionate and non-judgmental ear. His personality was big and unforgettable; he was loving, creative and adventurous. He loved all living creatures, the outdoors was his calling, and his mind soaked up all things historical. The one constant happiness in Joey's life was his rescue dog, Dodger, who went everywhere with him, either riding shotgun or resting in the nearby shade.
