Joseph "Joe" John Kutcher, Jr., 48, husband of ReBecca Shellhamer Kutcher of Mt. Pleasant, SC passed away on Tuesday, July 17, 2012. The relatives and friends of Joe Kutcher are invited to attend his Memorial Service on Friday, July 20, 2012 in Christ Episcopal Church at 1:00 pm. Inurnment will follow in the churchyard. Arrangements provided by J. HENRY STUHR MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL. The family will receive friends after the service at the Parish Hall.
Joseph was born on January 25, 1964 in Coaldale, Pennsylvania, son of the late Joseph John Kutcher and Helen Hedash Kutcher. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from Penn State University. A teacher at Wando High School, Joe was a member of the South Carolina Teacher's Association, and a Member of Penn State's Alumni Association. During his teaching career, Joe was one of the first teachers in the Charleston County School District to become a National Board Certified Teacher (2000) and earned National Board recertification (2009). He was Teacher of the Year at Laing Middle School (2001) and selected Honor Roll – Top Five – Charleston County School District Teacher of the Year (2001-2002). The "Voice of Wando" for basketball and volleyball games, Joe also served as Timekeeper for Wando High School B-Team, JV, and Varsity football, and was a Student Council Freshman Sponsor. He was a dedicated Wando Warrior. He taught at Bishop England (1991-1992), Laing Middle School (1992-2002), and Wando High School (2002-Present). Prior to teaching Joe worked for Kutcher's TV & Appliances in Tamqua, PA, and was an engineer for Unisys Corporation repairing nuclear submarine navigational systems. Joe was a member of Christ Episcopal Church since 1998, was an accomplished percussionist, loved classic rock music and completing puzzles, was an avid sports fan, and loved to collect ties and anything Star Wars. Gardening, fishing and cooking were common ways in which Joe relaxed.
He is survived by his wife, ReBecca S. Kutcher of Mt. Pleasant, SC; three daughters, Trista Sue Kutcher, Suzanna Kutcher and Samantha Kutcher, all of Mt. Pleasant, SC; sisters, Janet Andrejco and her husband, Robert of Chesapeake, VA and JoAnn Rodgers and her husband, Charles of Tamaqua, PA, a sister-in-law, Jocelyn Shellhamer of Tamaqua, PA, and a brother-in-law, Bruce Haggerty. He is also survived by twenty nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Kathy Haggerty of Elizabethtown, KY.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in Joe's memory to Wando PTSO "Joe Kutcher Scholarship", 1000 Warrior Way, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29466.
