Joseph Coleman Hurteau

Brigadier General Joseph Coleman Hurteau, 86, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Minnie Bostick Hurteau, entered into eternal rest Thursday, September 14, 2023. His Funeral Service will be held Thursday, September 21, 2023 in St. Philip's Church, 142 Church Street at 11:00 am.  Interment to immediately follow in St. Philip's Churchyard. The family will receive friends following the service at the Carolina Yacht Club, 50 East Bay Street.  Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.
 
Brigadier General Joseph Coleman Hurteau was born September 9, 1937, in Florence, South Carolina, son of George and Helen Hurteau. A graduate of the Citadel, class of 1959 he commissioned into the US Army in June 1959. Brigadier General Hurteau was the former Deputy Commanding General of the United States Army Civil Affairs and Psychological Operations Command (Airborne) at Ft. Bragg. He was a graduate of the USA War College and Command and General Staff College. During his extensive career he had the distinct honor of acting as General Staff Operations and Training Officer, Psychological/Civil Affairs Advisor, Unit Commander, and Reconnaissance Unit Commander.  Throughout his military career, Brigadier General Hurteau was awarded numerous merit badges as well as foreign awards and badges for his dedicated service. 
 
He is survived by his son, Joseph Coleman Hurteau, Jr.; two daughters, Kathryn Hurteau (Gray) Ives, Mary Helen Hurteau; six grandchildren, Ashely Davant Hurteau, Spencer Coleman (Savannah Marie) Hurteau, Grayham Hurteau Ives, Anne Langley Ives, Coleman Briggs Delk, Samuel Hurteau Delk; sister-in-law, Sharon Hurteau; nephew, James Stanard (Jayme) Hurteau, II; grand-nephew, James Stannard Hurteau,III,  and grand-niece, Caroline Taylor Hurteau.
