Joseph Daniel Halford, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of Jane Christine Halford, passed away on February 1, 2025, at the age of 90, after a long battle with cancer. He was born on September 29, 1934, in Aiken, South Carolina, the son of the late Joseph Stafford Halford and the late Lucille Bell Halford. Joe led a distinguished life as a Nuclear Physicist/Engineer, dedicating many years of service as a Principal Consultant at Dupont De Nemours. He and a partner founded Automated Graphics Technology, flying a 1939 Luscombe plane to capture aerial photos used to digitize maps of Charleston County.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Joe's passions extended to traveling the world, experiencing diverse cultures and forging connections globally, through his work with DuPont, which turned into a passion for traveling. He also had a remarkable talent for woodworking, crafting furniture that has become cherished heirlooms, destined to be passed down through generations. His legacy of craftsmanship is exemplified by the house he built in I'on, a testament to his dedication and skill.
Joseph is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jane of Mount Pleasant, son, Joseph Halford, Jr. of Lake Murray, daughter, Denise Fraser (Bill Diaz) of Charleston, SC. and, and Dr. Robert Luckett (Meghan) of Kingsville, TX., two grandchildren, Christi Fabie (Joe) and Brantley Fraser (Amanda), and four great grandchildren, Janie Fabie, Ford Fabie, Fraser Fabie and Emory Fraser.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Stafford Halford, and his mother, Lucille Halford. He was also preceded in death by infant son, Phillip Huger Halford. Joe will be remembered for his intellect, creativity, and compassionate nature. The graveside service honoring his life will be held Thursday, February 6, 2025 at Magnolia Cemetery, 70 Cunnington Avenue at 10:30 am. Arrangements have been entrusted to J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel.
