Joseph David Dunleavy, 71, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of Madeline McBride Dunleavy passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2014. His Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 in the J. HENRY STUHR, INC. MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road. Interment will be private.
Joseph was born October 17, 1942 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, son of the late Joseph Nicholas Dunleavy and Nancy Moran Dunleavy. Joe spent his career as an aerospace engineer and sales executive in the Northeast, where he was a member of numerous industry and community organizations. He retired to the Charleston area eight years ago. He was an active parishioner of Christ Our King Catholic Church where he served as an Usher, and was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Citizens Police Academy. He was an avid golfer, excellent marksman, and a collectible car enthusiast.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Madeline McBride Dunleavy; his sons, Robert Dunleavy of North Jersey, and Joseph J. Dunleavy and his wife, Jacqueline of Wallington, NJ; his brother, Tim Dunleavy and his wife, Anita of Oreland, PA; his sister, Kathy Alcorn and her husband, Will of Glenside, PA; his sisters-in-law, Mary Catherine, Kathleen, and Donna; his brothers-in-law, Bob and Ron; and a number of much loved nieces and nephews.
