Joseph Dennis
Dennard
June 4, 2014 – June 11, 2026
Starts at 6:45 pm (Eastern time)
Joseph Dennis Dennard, lovingly known to so many as "Super Joe," was born on June 4, 2014, and entered into eternal rest on June 11, 2026. Though twelve years is far too short a life, Joseph filled every one of those years with laughter, adventure, creativity, and love, leaving an impact far beyond his time on earth.
The world knew him as Super Joe because we all knew how special he was.
Joseph was never defined by his diagnosis. He was a kid who loved the water, collecting Disney pins, building Legos, cheering for Appalachian State football, Savannah Bananas Baseball , listening to Benson Boone, and buying souvenirs and merchandise to commemorate happy memories and adventures. He was a gifted artist with a vivid imagination and a natural storyteller. Whether he was creating artwork, building intricate Lego worlds, swimming, shooting basketball, or planning his next Disney adventure, Joseph embraced life with enthusiasm and wonder.
Some of his happiest memories were made at Disney, where the magic perfectly matched his own joyful spirit. He loved making memories and holding onto them, not just in photographs, but in the pins, keepsakes, and treasures that reminded him of the people and places he loved.
Perhaps what people admired most about Joseph was how authentically himself he was. No one ever had to wonder where he stood on any topic. He was honest, fearless, funny, and full of heart. His smile could brighten a room, his laughter was contagious, and his love for others was evident in everything he did.
Over the last six years, many people have said that Joseph was fighting cancer. But the more we reflect on his life, the less that description seems to fit who Joseph truly was.
Joseph wasn't spending his days battling cancer. He was spending his days loving his family, making people laugh, embracing every adventure, singing at the top of his lungs even when he didn't know all the words, and making memories with the people he loved most.
Joseph didn't have to fight because his parents fought for him every single day. They moved mountains for their son. They loved him fiercely, relentlessly, and without limits. Every opportunity, every adventure, every cherished memory, and every extra moment Joseph was given came from parents who never stopped believing in him, never stopped advocating for him, and never gave up.
But Joseph's journey was something different. He chose joy. He chose love. He chose to make every moment count. Cancer did not define him, and it certainly did not defeat him. Joseph did not lose a battle. He lived a remarkable life that was bigger than a diagnosis and left a mark on every person fortunate enough to know him.
Joseph was the beloved son of Clayton Rutledge Dennard and Christina Dennis Dennard. He is lovingly remembered by his grandparents, David and Joann Dennis, Tom and Mary Jo Dennard, and Mike and Lisa Seagle, along with countless family and friends all of whom cherished the time they shared with him and held a special place in his life
Twelve years is far too short a life, but Joseph taught lessons that many people never learn in a lifetime. He taught us what courage looks like. He taught us to celebrate the good days and keep moving through the hard ones. He taught us never to take a moment for granted, to laugh louder, love harder, and find joy in the little things. He inspired more people than he will ever know and loved more deeply than most of us could ever imagine.
As a dear friend recently reminded us, Joseph would never have focused on the things he didn't get to do. Instead, he would have wanted us to talk about all the things he did get to do, the places he went, the adventures he experienced, the people he loved, and the memories he made. For that, and for every moment we were blessed to share with him, we are forever grateful.
Most of all, Joseph taught us how deeply one person can love and be loved.
We love you so much, Joe. Though our hearts are broken, your courage, your laughter, your love, and your spirit will remain with us always. Your life was measured not by years, but by the joy you brought to others and the love you left behind.
A Celebration of Life for Joseph will be held on July 11th 2026 at 6:45pm 360 Fishburne St, Charleston, SC 29403
