Joseph Chase

Joseph Chase, 85, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Frances Schwartz Chase passed away Monday, April 10, 2017. Funeral services were held at the graveside Monday, April 10, 2017 in Brith Sholom Beth Israel (Maryville) at 3:00 p.m. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.

Joe was born November 13, 1931 in Charleston, the first born son of Marty Chase and Freda Lerner Chase. He graduated from the High School of Charleston, The Citadel and attended Wharton Graduate School. Alongside his brother Philip, Joe built and owned Chase Furniture Company on King Street for many decades. He was a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force, a Mason, and a Past President and Lifelong Member of Brith Sholom Beth Israel Synagogue. Joe was active in the Charleston business and civic community. He was proud to be a native Charlestonian and was a joyous spirit beloved by all who knew him.

Joe is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Frances Schwartz Chase; his children: Andrea Chase (Douglas Howard), Ira Chase and Hy Chase; one grandchild, Zoe Chase Howard and sister-in-law, Leah Chase. He was predeceased by his only brother, Philip Chase.
