Joseph Dawson Bourne

Joseph Dawson Bourne, 17, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, passed on to heaven peacefully on Monday, March 16, 2015, after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was at home surrounded by his loving family. His Funeral Service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 19, 2015 at East Cooper Baptist Church, 361 Egypt Road, Mt. Pleasant. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Georgetown, at 4:00 pm. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC. MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL.
Dawson was born February 6, 1998 in Savannah, Georgia, son of Carlton "Charlie" R. Bourne, Jr. and Sheryl Benton Bourne. Dawson was a Junior at Wando High School and was a member of the Beta Club and the Wando Theatre. He was an Honor Roll student. He was also a member of Boy Scout Troop 502 on the Isle of Palms and earned the highest honor of Eagle Scout before age 15. Dawson was an active member of East Cooper Baptist Church where he was very involved in his Youth Group and Sunday School class.
Dawson loved Clemson football, going to oyster roasts, and playing on his iPad. He loved being in the Boy Scouts and going camping. After his illness was diagnosed, almost 20 fellow scouts shaved their heads to show their support for Dawson during his chemo treatment.
He is survived by his parents of Mount Pleasant, SC, two brothers, Grayson Bourne and Parker Bourne, both of Clemson, SC; sister, Bethany Bourne of Mount Pleasant, SC; paternal grandparents, Carlton & Betty Bourne of Georgetown, SC; maternal grandmother, Roberta Benton of Georgetown, SC; two aunts, Sarah Ellen Bourne and Ann Ward, both of Georgetown, SC; two uncles, Sonny (Kealy) Benton and Joseph Benton, both of Georgetown, SC; and one of his favorite great aunts, Carol Jean Frye of Indio, CA.
His family is especially grateful to his nurse Markita, and the nurses and staff on 7B of the Children's Hospital.
