Joseph John "Joe" Benich, Jr., Ph.D., 79, of Isle Of Palms, South Carolina, husband of Roberta "Roban" Benich entered into eternal rest Wednesday, December 22, 2021. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel.
Joseph was born October 14, 1942 in Cleveland, Ohio, son of the late Joseph John Benich, Sr., and the late Marjorie Slater Benich. He was a Professor of Business at the College of Charleston, serving as the first Chair of the School of Business and Economics. He earned his Doctorate of Business Administration from Kent State University, Masters of Business Administration from Case Western Reserve, and Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Case Institute of Technology where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta. He was also a member of Mensa.
Joe was an avid fisherman. He remains the State of South Carolina record holder for Crevalle Jack for a 40 pound 1 ounce fish caught in 1993 with his friend Buddy Leman.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Roban of Isle of Palms, SC; son, Joseph John "JJ" Benich, III, M.D. and spouse Suzanne of Mt. Pleasant, SC; daughter, Kiersten "Kiki" Lofton, M.D. and spouse Trey of Columbia, SC; brother, Timothy Benich, D.M.D and wife Diane of Atlanta, GA; seven grandchildren, Joey, Cy, and Sophia Benich of Mt. Pleasant, SC and, Sadie, Alex, Charlotte, and Parker Lofton of Columbia, SC.
