Joseph Oliver Barnette

Joseph Oliver Barnette, 89, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Katherine K. Barnette, entered into eternal rest Sunday, October 26, 2025. His funeral service will be held Sunday, November 2, 2025, in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., West Ashley Chapel, at 1:00 pm. The family will receive friends Sunday, from 12:00 pm until 1:00 pm. Burial will follow in Stono Baptist Church Cemetery, SC-165.

Joseph was born April 3, 1936 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late Joseph Daniel Barnette and Bernard Martin Barnette. He grew up in downtown Charleston where he would visit his father along the docks, learning woodworking from him. Joining the Navy as soon as he could, Joe was able to explore the world a bit. If you knew Joe, you often heard a Navy story. He then became a truck driver for Packet Express which became G&P Trucking, who he retired from. Joe married Katherine in 1964 and the rest was family history. His favorite thing to do was to be out on the river fishing with his kids and grandkids.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Debora Whitzel; daughter, Jennifer Brinson; son, Joseph Earl Barnette; six grandchildren, Joseph Matthew Barnette, Jenna Barnette, Jillian(Jay) Barnette, Raymond Courtney, Erynn Armstrong, and Hannah Strange; two great-grandchildren, Lukah Armstrong and Jonah Armstrong; and sister Charleine Holder.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Bernard Wayne Clark.
