John Hertz Warren

John Hertz Warren III, 75, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Helen Smith Warren, died on Monday, March 14, 2022.

Johnny was born June 6, 1946 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late John Hertz Warren, Jr. MD and Louise Hammett Warren. He was a graduate of Christ School, College of Charleston and USC School of Law.

Johnny was a man of singular focus and passions. As a sailor he captained his family across the Atlantic and back on a 39' ketch. As a philosopher he earned a BA from University of London. As a fox hunter he was master of hounds. As an attorney he managed his own thriving law practice. As a bicyclist he rode hundreds of miles per week. As a violinist he aimed for a chair on the symphony floor. We believe he'd have made it.

He is survived by wife Helen; daughters Louise Warren Newton (Tradd) of Charleston, SC and Caroline Gregorie Warren of Bozeman, MT; son John Alexander Warren (Caroline) of Charleston, SC; sister, Dodie Warren Truesdale (John) of Murrells Inlet, SC; nephews Angus McRae Warren, Parker Warren and William Warren; and five grandchildren, James T. Newton Jr, J. Warren Newton, J. Chantler Newton, Dalton L. Warren and J. Hall Warren.

His funeral service will be held graveside Sunday, March 20, 2022 in Magnolia Cemetery, at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Charleston Symphony Orchestra and The Confederate Home.
