John Doyle Varn, Jr.

John Doyle Varn, Jr., 95, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of Virginia Warren Varn passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2013. A Celebration of John's Life will be held Sunday, June 9, 2013 in the J. HENRY STUHR INC. DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, 232 Calhoun Street at 3:00 pm. Interment will follow in Magnolia Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Stuhr's Downtown Funeral Chapel.

Mr. Varn was born September 29, 1917 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late John Doyle Varn, Sr. and the late Belle Hamilton Varn . He was a Mechanical Engineer with the Federal Government and a life-time member of Bethel United Methodist Church. He was a graduate of Clemson University. He served as an Ordinance Officer with the U.S. Air Force, stationed in England, during WWII. He was a Supervisor of the Mechanical Engineering Branch in the Public Works Department of Charleston Naval Shipyard, from which he retired in 1983. In his spare time, Mr.Varn enjoyed traveling, gardening and working crossword puzzles.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Varn of Mount Pleasant, SC; and his sons, Richard Varn of Mt. Pleasant, SC, John W. Varn of Charleston, SC, and James Varn of Mt. Pleasant, SC.
