John Frank Turner

John Frank Turner, 85, formerly of Perry, Florida, died Monday, February 2, 2015 in Charleston, South Carolina after a long illness.

Mr. Turner was born July 15, 1929, in Waco, Georgia, son of the late Grover Cleveland Turner and Lois Parker Turner. He graduated from Darlington School in Rome, Georgia, and from Georgia Tech in 1951, Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. He was commissioned an Ensign in the U.S. Navy and served as a Petroleum Engineer on Bahrain Island in the Persian Gulf during the Korean War, and later at the Bureau of Ships, Navy Department, in Washington, D.C.

He came to Westvaco in 1954 where he became plant superintendent and resided in Charleston, SC for 20 years, and retired from E.M. Watkins Engineering in Perry, Florida in 2005.

Mr. Turner was an elder of First Presbyterian Church in Perry, Florida.

He is survived by his children: Patricia T. Crumbley and her husband, Jack, Judie T. Baldree, all of Charleston, Beth T. Dinsmore and her husband, Joe, of Sharon, SC, and Matthew I. Turner of Atlanta, GA. He is also survived by grandchildren Jackson and Hayes Crumbley, Jordan and Wyatt Dinsmore, and Adrianna Acosta Turner, and his sister-in-law, Sue Schroeder Dority.

Mr. Turner was predeceased by his parents and his wife, Nancy Schroeder Turner.

A memorial service will be held in Perry, FL, at a later date. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Downtown Chapel.
