John Edward Tissot

John Edward Tissot, 82, of Ravenel, SC, entered into eternal rest on Monday, August 5, 2024, surrounded by family. His memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ- St. Paul's Anglican Church in Yonges Island, SC. The family invites all those who loved John to come honor and celebrate his life at the memorial service, which will be followed by a reception. A graveside service with Military Honors will be held Friday, August 30, 2024, in Beaufort National Cemetery, at 11:00 am. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., West Ashley Chapel. 

John was born September 10, 1941, in Newark, NJ, and was the son of the late John Lewis Tissot and the late Mildred Adelmann D'Amore. He was a beloved son, husband, father, brother, and grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Nancy Rose Ilderton Tissot, and his children, John E. Tissot, II of Ladson, SC; Beth Davis of Mississippi; Jennifer Tissot and her husband, Nathan Conkle of West Ashley, SC; and Christopher Tissot and his wife, Kimberly of Rock Hill, SC. John also had six grandchildren: Karen, Megan, Aidan, Avery, Carter, and Charlie, and one great-grandchild, Olivia. His brother, David D'Amore and his wife Linda; step-brother, Jimmy D'Amore and his wife Tami; and his sister, Carolyn Selser and her husband, Harry of Burnsville, Minnesota. He also leaves behind many loving brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews as well as his beloved dog, Scrappy. He is preceded in death by his mother, father, step-father, Carmine D'Amore, and his step-sister, Anna Morgan. His family's love and support were his greatest treasures, and he will be deeply missed. 

John had a remarkable life marked by significant achievements. He attended Transylvania College in Lexington, Kentucky, from 1961 to 1964 and received his associate's degree in banking from Trenton State Teachers College in Trenton, NJ. One of his proudest moments was when he served in the United States Navy for 20 years, rising to the rank of a decorated CW04. John was a Vietnam Veteran and served as a corpsman for the Marines during the war. His dedication and service were further exemplified when he graduated from the University of Nebraska School of Medicine with a degree in Physician Assistant Studies and continued serving active duty as a Physician Assistant (PA). John was the first PA to the Surgeon General and was selected as a candidate for the White House PA in 1970. John worked as a devoted PA at Ralph H. Johnson Veterans Affairs Hospital until his retirement. John's legacy lives on in the many PA students he mentored and inspired. 

John was a proud member of Christ-St. Paul's Anglican Church and always looked forward to his Monday morning men's group. He was also a 40-year life member of Masonic Mariner Lodge 2, a former past master of the Pythagorean Lodge, and a member of the St. Paul's Parish American Legion Post 145. 

John was a man of deep faith who radiated genuine love to all those around him. An example of his selflessness was when he grew his hair long to donate it to Locks of Love for people undergoing cancer treatment. John was always on the go, often caught in the middle of a house project, searching for deals, working in his barn, or riding his tractor. He deeply cherished his wife, Nancy, and left her love notes near the coffee pot every morning. Their marriage was a testament to true love. His family loved him deeply, and they were all thankful for the love they shared with him. The family would also like to express their appreciation to the hardworking nurses, doctors, Physician Assistants, and staff who cared for him at the Ralph H. Johnson Veterans Affairs Hospital and in the MSICU at the Medical University of South Carolina.
