John Russell Tiller, Jr., fondly known as "Russ," aged 83, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 13, 2026.

Born on June 30, 1943, in Florence, South Carolina, Russ was the son of the late John Russell Tiller, Sr. and Constance Burbage Tiller. He was the beloved husband of Rebecca Nankivell Tiller.

Russ had a distinguished 30-year career with IBM as a Software Development Manager, where his dedication and skill as a programmer made significant contributions to the company. Beyond his professional life, Russ was a man who put his heart into serving others. A devoted volunteer at his church for many years, he managed the audio booth and maintained the facilities. His hands-on generosity extended deep into the community through his work with UMRC and Habitat for Humanity, freely giving his time to build and restore homes for those in need.

Above all, Russ was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was honest and a generous giver of his time, always ready to lend a helping hand, share his knowledge, or offer support to anyone in need.

Russ is lovingly remembered by his wife, Rebecca; his three sons and their families:

● John Russell Tiller III (Paula) of Surfside, SC, and grandchildren Abby, Gavin and Courtney

● Stuart DeVault (Megan) of Mount Pleasant, SC, and grandchildren Rebecca and James

● Nathan DeVault (Kristina) of Asheville, NC

He is also survived by his sister, Connie Tiller Austin (Marion) of Columbia, SC. He was preceded in death by his brother, Charles B. Tiller.

● Celebration of Life: A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 12th from 2:00-4:00PM at the Park West Clubhouse 2701 Park West Blvd., Mount Pleasant, SC 29466
