John Thomas Thornhill

Tommy Thornhill, 87, of Hanahan, SC, formerly from Olanta, SC, married to the love of his life, Dorothy Roberson Thornhill passed away peacefully at home Sunday, October 17, 2021. His Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Highland Park Baptist Church, 6211 Murray Drive at 1:00 pm. Interment with military honors will follow at Carolina Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Northwoods Chapel.

Tommy was born October 21, 1933 in Florence County, SC, son of the late John William Thornhill and the late Ethel Josephine Stewart Thornhill. He was a US Navy Korean War veteran and retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard in 1988 as Mechanical Group Nuclear Director. Ten years after retirement, he worked as a Quality Assurance Instructor at the Alexandria, Egypt Naval Shipyard and later became a certified Historical Tour Guide in the City of Charleston with Greyline Tours of Charleston. He was a 32nd degree Mason and enjoyed fishing, boating and woodworking. His favorite thing to do was loving on his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was Grandbuddy to his grandchildren and all their friends.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Dot Thornhill; two daughters, Pamela Thornhill Giles Huff and Joan Thornhill Quinn (Doug); five grandsons: Jeremy Quinn (Catia), Nick Quinn, Kit Giles (Jes), Christopher Giles, Chris Huff; four great-grandchildren: Connor Quinn, Kinsley Giles, Brody Giles and Payton McMillan; one brother, Bobby Thornhill (Betty) and many extended family.He is predeceased by sisters Mildred Dukes, Maude Philips, and Mazine Thornhill; son-in-law, Daniel Huff and granddaughter, Heather Huff.

Flowers will be accepted, as well as donations to Dorchester Children's Advocacy Center and Highland Park Baptist Church of Hanahan, SC.
