John M. Stapleton, 82, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of Margaret P. Stapleton, died Wednesday, August 24, 2016. A Celebration of His Life will be held Saturday, August 27, 2016 at Sunrise Presbyterian Church, 3222 Middle Street at 2:00 p.m. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel.

John was born July 16, 1934 in Kentucky. He graduated from Berea College with a degree in Geology. In 1958, he joined the Kentucky state government and served as the Director of the Kentucky Division of Energy until retirement. He was an ordained elder in the Presbyterian Church (USA). John was an avid golfer who had four holes-in-one. Above all, he loved his family.

In addition to Margaret, his wife of 60 years, he is survived by his children: John Stapleton, wife Mary, Marian Baynham, husband Frank, and Robert Stapleton, wife Sarah; six grandchildren: John, Elaine, Timothy, Jeff, Matthew, and Chloe; and two sisters: Jean Stricklin and Mary Cotner.
