John Richard Sosnowski

Dr. John Richard Sosnowski, 92, of Wadmalaw Island, South Carolina, husband of Elizabeth Tyson Sosnowski entered into eternal rest Thursday, September 12, 2013. His Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, September 17, 2013 in St. Michael's Church, 71 Broad Street at 11:00 am. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends Monday from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in J. HENRY STUHR INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL.

Dr. Sosnowski was born June 27, 1921 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of John F. Sosnowski, Jr. and Eliza Fisk Skinner Sosnowski. He graduated from Clemson University and the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Sosnowski was named to the Roper Hospital Board of Commissioners in 1961 and was appointed the medical education director of MUSC in 1974. He also worked as a professor of obstetrics and gynecology at MUSC and was assistant dean of the College of Medicine. He was a member of the Carolina Yacht Club and St. Michael's Church.

He is survived by his wife; his daughter, Elizabeth Tyson Sosnowski, of Atlanta, GA; his two sons: John S. Sosnowski (Patti) of Wadmalaw Island, SC and Chris Sosnowski of Wadmalaw Island; his former daughter in law Janet Sosnowski; his four grandchildren: Liza S. McDaniel (Jamie), Trish S. Lawrence (Newman), Cory S. Prescott (Corey), and Anna S. Finch (Parker); and his brother, Rev. Frederick S. Sosnowski (Polly) of Rockville, SC.

We extend our deepest appreciation to the nurses and caregivers from Roper Hospital, Serenity Hospice and to those who have ministered to him with great love and professionalism in his home.
