John Randolph Shreves Jr. passed away February 12, 2024, in Charleston South Carolina. John graduated from UNC Chapel Hill and began a lifelong career in television broadcast. As Executive Producer of ACC Basketball and Football for Jefferson Pilot Sports he broadcast the first televised ACC games. He ultimately served as President of the Lincoln Financial television group overseeing WBTV, Charlotte, WWBT, Richmond and WCSC, Charleston. He was dedicated, and he worked hard. He enjoyed the competitive and creative nature of his business and, most importantly, mentoring those with whom he worked and challenging them to be the very best they could be. He was a recognized leader in his community and served on and chaired many community boards. He received several honors and awards for his contributions to broadcasting and journalism, academic institutions and non profit organizations. He will be remembered with great respect and fondness by scores of former colleagues, many of whom will always count him as a dear friend.
John had a passion for renovating and restoring houses. With his wife Susy, they tackled many such projects. He always applied with perfection that quintessential John Shreves attention to detail. John enjoyed history, business and politics. He was a gentleman through and through and was known for his polite manner and dry sense of humor. He was an optimist in a white starched shirt and bow tie who never met a challenge he could not or did not want to solve. He loved his family, his country and his dogs, Chessie, Harry, Quincy and Hope.
John was predeceased by his parents John Randolph Shreves and Virgie Richardson Shreves. His sister Janice Shreves Stelljes, his brother-in-law, George Stellijes, Jr., his father- in- law Barton Allen Proctor, and his sister-in- law Elizabeth Proctor Kenerson.
