John E. Schwarz

April 15, 1924 — March 14, 2011

TSgt. John E. Schwarz, Sr., USAF Ret.,86, of Hanahan, SC, died Monday, March 14, 2011, in a local hospital.


Born April 15, 1924 in St. Bernard, OH, he was the son of Sabastian Schwarz and Matilda C. Panko Schwarz.  His military career of more than 21 years included service during World War II and Korea.  He also retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard as an inside machinist.  John was a member of Divine Redeemer Catholic Church.   


Mr. Schwarz is survived by two daughters, Pat Shult and her husband Gary of Lake Charles, LA and Mary Skinner and her husband Frederick of Goose Creek, SC; four sons: John Schwarz and his wife Cathy of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Robert "Mikey" Schwarz of James Island, SC, Paul Schwarz and his wife Elaine of Panama City, FL and Andrew Schwarz and his wife Sharon of Hanahan, SC; grandchildren: John Schwarz III, Daniel Schwarz, Rachel Hart, Sarah Shult, Drew and Matthew Schwarz, Justin Skinner, Dawn Gruber, Tiffany Poindexter and Paul Schwarz Jr.; and four great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Bradley Schwarz; and three sons:  Stanley, Tim and Jim. 


The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held in Divine Redeemer Catholic Church, Thursday, March 17, 2011 at 11:00 AM.  Prayers of Final Commendation and Farewell with military honors will follow at Carolina Memorial Park.  A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m with visitation to follow until 9:00 p.m. at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road, Wednesday, March 16, 2011.


Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Divine Redeemer Catholic Church, 1106 Fort Drive, Hanahan, SC 29410.
