Brad was born on January 23, 1952 in Greenville, South Carolina, son of the late Deas Manning Richardson, Jr. and Emily Bull Richardson of Greenville, SC. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Suzanne M. Richardson of Mt. Pleasant, SC; one son, J. Bradley Richardson, Jr. and his wife, Dori, of Murfreesboro, TN; one grandson, Levi Bradley Richardson of Murfreesboro, TN; and one sister, Emily "Mimi' Shaughnessy and her husband, Jim, of Earlton, FL; his sisters-in-law Lisa Martin Pearson and Margaret Badger Richardson; brother-in-law Bruce Martin; nieces and nephews Emily, Deas IV, Heath and Bonnie Richardson and Caroline Pearson of Denver, CO; his uncle Francis M. (Cotton) Richardson (Frances) of Spartanburg, and their children Cantey Richardson and Sarah Arnold. He was preceded in death by his brother, Deas Manning Richardson, III.
Bradley attended Christ Church School in Greenville; graduated from Christ School in Arden, NC; received his BA from Furman Univ. He began his career in textiles at Milliken Corp., but soon decided to return to Christ School, Arden as Alumni Director and student recruiter. After four years he and Sam moved to Charleston to begin a long career in healthcare. He began at old St. Francis hospital; then to North Trident hospital to manage an HMO for them; he opened a clinic for military dependants in Beaufort, SC and Norfolk, VA, at which time he was recognized by President George Bush, at a ceremony at the White House, as a "Point of Light" for his work with military families. Bradley became an Asst. Admin. Of Georgetown Hospital for several years; the finished out his career at MUSC as administrator of the departments of ENT and Urology when his health began to decline.
Bradley's great loves were his involvement with the church and the Boy Scouts. Two highlights were his journey with Troop 15 to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, and receiving his Silver Beaver award for leadership. His proudest moment was the completion of Eagle Scout at age 14 by his son Brad.
Sam and Brad would like to thank all the caregivers involved with Bradley at MUSC (esp. Dr. Kimberly Davis and Kathy Salters, RN), Grace Hall Rehab., and Odyssey Hospice team 3. But the most miraculous gift of life was given by Chi Chi Setzer in the form of her son David Catoe's kidney, for whom we will be eternally grateful for giving us those last 7 years with Bradley.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in Brad's Memory to the Home to Grace Fund, Grace Epis. Church, 98 Wentworth St., Charleston, SC 29401.
