Dr. John C. Mettler, 98, of Charleston, SC, widower of Isabel Riexinger Mettler, entered into eternal rest Friday, May 30, 2014. A private graveside service will be held in Spring Grove Cemetery, Florence, MA. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL.
John was born April 16, 1916 in Butler, Pennsylvania, son of John Mettler and Nellie Stamm Mettler. He earned his BA from Washburn College, his MA from Rutgers University, and his PhD from Clark University. Dr. Mettler retired as a professor of economics in the business department at The Citadel. He was a former member of St. James Church, James Island.
He is survived by his daughter, Louise Blumenthal (Richard) of Winchester, MA; granddaughter, Katherine Blumenthal (Hakan Vramsmo) of Northampton, England; great-grandson, Hemming John Vramsmo of Northampton, England; and his close friend, Mitzi Legerton.
