John Mammino

December 24, 1936 — February 1, 2014

John Mammino, Jr., 77, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of Christine Mary Taylor passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2014. A Gathering of Friends to celebrate John's life will be held on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm in the J. HENRY STUHR, INC. MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road, with brief blessings offered by Sr. Clare Stephen. Interment will be private.

John was born December 24, 1936 in Brooklyn, New York, son of the late John Mammino, Sr and Lucy Manto Mammino. He was a graduate of CCNY, with a B.S. in Chemistry. He began his computer career at IBM in Poughkeepsie in 1960. From there, he went on to work in Information Technology at a number of banks including Citibank and Chemical Bank in New York and Chase Manhattan in Paris , France and the Caribbean. He completed his IT career at ATT from which he retired.

A veteran of the National Guard, he was a member of The Sons of Italy. John loved history, especially the Civil War, and enjoyed watching reenactments and visiting Civil War sites. He was a voracious reader and enjoyed sharing coffee with friends at Barnes and Noble. John especially loved music, and loved to go to the Metropolitan Opera. From his mother, he developed a deep appreciation of movies. With Christine, he endured the Quilters Night Out gatherings , and was fond of the visits from various book clubs and the quilters groups to which Christine belonged.

He is survived by his loving wife, Christine Mary Taylor; and his children, Andre Christopher Mammino of Philadelphia, PA and Hilary Lucy Mammino of Signal Mountain, TN. He was a loving and devoted husband and father and he was greatly loved by his many friends.
