John Steven Kurtz was born April 9, 1992, at St. Francis hospital, in downtown Charleston, SC. He left this world too soon, on July 19, 2025. He was a beloved son, husband and father. His friends and teammates valued his loyalty, wit and charm.
John’s early years were committed to every sport he was introduced to, starting with soccer and followed by many seasons of baseball. Middle school included football and basketball. His high school focus turned towards cross country running and finally swimming.
In addition to his love of team sports John was an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer.
He also was a faithful fan to the Wisconsin Badgers, USC Gamecocks, and Green Bay Packers, especially while earning his degrees in manufacturing engineering and later his master’s degree in systems engineering.
As a young man, John became genuinely interested in engineering. He took first place in a state-run middle school engineering competition. Over the years, he turned his focus to opportunities with The Boeing Company. He was selected as one of the Boeing South Carolina 2015 Engineering interns and proudly served the company on various teams until his passing.
John was a kind, loving, and respectful husband to his wife Victoria and the greatest girl dad to his daughter Leddie Lucille. John is deeply missed by his wife and daughter, who live to display the amazing qualities of kindness, love, and respect that he showed them. The family can rest assured knowing that "Daddy is on the mountain with Jesus now" as his daughter Leddie says.
His memorial service will be held, Saturday, October 18, 2025, at East Cooper Baptist Church, 361 Egypt Rd., Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464, at 2:00 pm. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mt. Pleasant Chapel.
