John D. Kicklighter, (Col US Army Ret) of Seabrook Island, SC, died Monday, Feb 6, 2012, at Roper Hospital. He was the husband of Georgeanna Marlow Kicklighter.
He was born Sept 25, 1930, in Mendes, GA, son of Vivian and Fess Kicklighter.
He graduated from Glennville High School in 1949; attended Brewton Parker Jr. College, Newberry College, graduated from Georgia Southern University. He earned graduate degrees from Appalachian State University and Georgia State University.
He coached boys basketball at St. Andrews High School "Rocks", was principal of Springfield Elementary School, St. Andrews Jr. High School and Middleton High School before relocating to Atlanta, Ga in 1971 to become principal of Lakeside High School. He was Assistant Superintendent of Planning, and athletics for Dekalb County School System in 1983 from which he retired in 1991.
He served in the U. S. Army from 1955-1959 and the U. S. Army Reserve. He was Chief of Staff of the 818th Hospital Center, Ft. Gillem, GA. He was awarded the Army Achievement Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, and Legion of Merit. He retired in 1990.
He and Georgeanna moved to Seabrook Island in 2000. They are members of St. Johannes Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Georgeanna Marlow Kicklighter.
Three daughters: Elizabeth (Susie) and her husband Jimmy McMullan of Mt Pleasant , Jane and husband Peter Manos of Beaufort, SC, Joan and husband Gary Burger of Hoschton, GA and son John Kicklighter, Jr and wife Julie of Mt. Pleasant.
Grandchildren: Frank Williams and wife Jenny, John Lawrence Williams, Joni, Nicholas and John Manos, Emilie and Gary Burger, Jr., Brad and Ben Kicklighter.
Special brother-in-law Elmore Marlow, Jr., and mother-in-law Rita Vose Marlow. He was predeceased by younger brother Lamont Kicklighter.

A celebration of his life will be on Thursday, February 9, 2:00 pm at St. Johannes Lutheran Church. The family will receive friends 1 hour before the service in Gatch Hall.
