John Earl Kennedy, 88, of Isle of Palms, SC passed away on Tuesday, June 5, 2012. The relatives and friends of John Kennedy are invited to attend his Funeral Service on Friday, June 8, 2012 in J. HENRY STUHR MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL at 10:00 am. Burial will follow in Carolina Memorial Park. The family will greet friends at the Mount Pleasant Chapel on Thursday, June 7, 2012 from 5:00 until 7:00 pm.
He was born on February 24, 1924 in Pamplico, South Carolina, son of the late George Stafford Kennedy and Iula Lynch Kennedy. He worked as a Nuclear Industrial Engineer with the Charleston Naval Shipyard for 27 years, was of the Methodist faith and loved the Windjammer's Cheeseburger.
He is survived by his children, Catherine A. Kennedy of Johns Island, SC, David E. Kennedy of Isle of Palms, SC, James"Doug" Kennedy of the Isle of Palms, SC and Timothy B. Kennedy and his wife, Paula, of Mt. Pleasant, SC; one sister, Georgia Driggers of Moncks Corner, SC; four grandchildren, Melissa "Missy" Allen and her husband, Matt, Angie Steingass, Blair Willhelm and Douglas W. Willhelm; three great grandchildren, Max and Brady Steingass, and Kye Allen; and the mother of John Earl's children, Joan A. Devereux.
The family wishes to thank the staff at East Cooper Medical Center, especially Jill Cleary, RN, and Hospice of Charleston – A Gentiva Company, especially Christine Dean, RN, Dr. Stuart Owen and Dr. George Durst, Jr. for their support during this difficult time.
