John Michael Kammeyer, 69, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Victoria Shogry Kammeyer entered into eternal rest Thursday, August 12, 2021. His Funeral Service will be held Monday, August 16, 2021 in Grace Church Cathedral, 98 Wentworth Street at 2:00 p.m. The service may be viewed via live stream at the following link https://youtu.be/KJ1AAYFTCQE. A committal service will be held later in the Grace Church Columbarium. The family will receive friends Sunday, in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.
John was born November 13, 1951 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, son of the late Arnold Ernest Rudolph Kammeyer and Nora Bell Avey Kammeyer. Following graduation from Woodland High School in Woodburn, IN as a stand-out athlete, John was recruited by Baptist College and played on their Basketball Team for four years. He is honored and in the Charleston Southern Hall of Fame. John was a member of numerous Charleston civic organizations to include the German Friendly Society and the Charleston Exchange Club, where he twice received its "Man of the Year" recognition. He served as a vestry member at Grace Church Cathedral and was the Captain of all ushers. John was the co-owner of Rug Masters and received national recognition for his professional demeanor and business acumen. He loved his work.
John is survived by his wife of 46 years, Vicki of Charleston, SC; daughter, Margaret Kammeyer Williams (John Allen) of Arlington, VA; son, Kurt Arnold Shogry Kammeyer (Anna Maria) of Charleston, SC; two brothers: Steven Kammeyer of Woodburn, IN and Timothy Kammeyer of Maquoketa, IA; and four grandchildren: Luke Allen Williams, Nora Victoria Williams, John Michael Kammeyer and Marianna Sophia Kammeyer. He was a beloved son, brother, husband, uncle, father, and Opa to his family, all titles which he cherished. We will love him forever.
