John "Jack" Peter Katzbach, Jr.

John "Jack" Peter Katzbach, Jr., 84, of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, died on Thursday, August 6, 2015. His Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, August 11, 2015 in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road at 11:00 a.m. Interment with military honors will follow in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends in the Mount Pleasant Chapel on Monday, August 10, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

John was born September 2, 1930, in Rensselaer, Indiana, son of the late John P. Katzbach and Esther Ferguson Katzbach. He attended Rensselaer High School, Butler University, and Indiana University. He received a company sponsored Advanced Business Certificate from the University of Virginia and attended numerous IBM sponsored advanced technical studies relating to the start-up of the Computer Revolution. He served in the United States Army for two years, 1952-1954 followed by six years in the reserves. He joined IBM corporation in 1954 where he held a host of technical, marketing, management and executive positions. He received many technical and executive leadership awards for his performance in helping guide and develop this rapidly growing industry.

John retired from IBM in 1987 after 33 years of employment working mostly in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania areas. Immediately after retirement, he started an independent Computer Consulting Firm in the New Jersey and NYC area as a business partner with IBM. This was a division of Computer Aid and it remains a very actively and growing business in the area. While working for IBM, he started with his wife, Patricia, a Jersey shore rental business which they developed into a very successful small business.

He married Frances Oram, his high school sweetheart in 1955. They had two children, Stacey and John. Frances passed away in 1971. He married Patricia Youngblood in 1975 and she had two children, Todd and Mark. She passed away in 1994. He joined a union with Bonnie Buskirk in 1997 and she had four children, Mark, Karen, Kenny and Scott. Mr. Katzbach is survived by eight children/step children, fifteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren. His greatest joy was being involved with all the children and the entire family remains a very close family unit.

Mr. Katzbach was very active in the community since retiring to the Isle of Palms in 1991. He was secretary of the Wild Dunes Men's Golf Association, President of the Morgan Place Homeowners Association, member of the Isle of Palms Planning Commission, Commissioner of the Isle of Palm's Water and Sewer Commission, Accounting/Computer Consultant to the Sunrise Presbyterian Church, member of the President Advisory Council at the Medical University of SC, Computer and Accounting consultant to the Hibben United Methodist Church Relief Organization. He was a Master Mason and a sixty year member of the Masonic Lodge. He was a member of the Charleston Rifle Club and the Charleston Elk's Lodge.

Mr. Katzbach enjoyed traveling, boating, golf, reading, playing classical piano music, and Ball Room Dancing where he and Bonnie achieved Gold Bar status by the Arthur Murray Dance Organization.
