A graveside service will be held Sunday, June 8, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. at Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens, located at 1308 Mathis Ferry Road, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464. Arrangements are by J. Henry Stuhr.
John Horsman was born on July 26, 1938, in White Plains, New York, to the late John G. Horsman, Sr., and Blanche Dougherty Horsman. After a happy childhood spent ice skating in Lake Placid, NY, riding his horse on the family farm outside Cincinnati, drilling on Fifth Avenue with the Knickerbocker Greys, and working on a Coca-Cola delivery truck during the summers, he served in the New York Army National Guard from 1959 to 1962 before completing his service in the United States Army Reserve.
A graduate of Miami University, he began his career at the New York Daily News before joining the Boyle-Midway division of American Home Products in 1968. He rose through the ranks to become Division President in 1975 before being promoted to Corporate Group Vice President in 1978, a position he held until 1992. As a corporate executive, he dedicated himself to his work, often bringing his briefcase to the beach.
After 24 years with American Home Products in New York City, he joined the Chicago-based Alberto-Culver Company in 1994 and served as President of its International Group until his retirement in 1999. In his later years, he enjoyed watching his sons play hockey and writing his memoirs. He also enjoyed the many happy years he spent in the South of France.
In addition to his wife, Lorna, of 36 years, he is survived by his sons, John G. Horsman III of Brooklyn, NY; Brooks Horsman of Darien, CT; Graham A. Horsman of Mount Pleasant, SC; and Jacques Horsman of Mount Pleasant, SC; his daughters, Victoria ("Vickie") Gandini of Darien, CT, and Hilary Wade of Rye, NY; his sister, Jane Sherman of Rye Brook, NY; and seven grandchildren.
