RMC John Andrew Hempton, Jr., USN (Ret.).,76, of Johns Island, South Carolina, widower of Patricia "Pat" Presher Hempton entered into eternal rest Sunday, January 1, 2017. His Funeral Service will be held Thursday, January 5, 2017 in J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway at 1:00 p.m. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday in Stuhr's Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
John was born June 17, 1940 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late John Andrew Hempton, Sr,. and Dorothy Bonnett Hempton Caton. He was a retired United States Navy Chief Radioman after 20 years of service. John was a member of the West Ashley Outbound Motor Club, and Master Plumbers Association.
He is survived by his four daughters, Sharon Larnish of Goose Creek, SC, Amber Jenness of North Charleston, SC, Shelia Watson of Charleston, SC, and Cheryl Mitchell of Fort Hood, TX; son, John "Andy" A. Hempton, III., of Fort Lawn, SC; two sisters, Edna Taylor of Johns Island, SC, and Ann Thurston of Salisbury, NC; fifteen grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren. He was predeceased in death by a grandchild, great-grandchild and his brother Robert Hemton.
