John Harry Harken, Jr, 92, of Charleston, South Carolina, widower of Janett McKnight Harken entered into eternal rest Tuesday, March 19, 2013. His Funeral Service will be held Sunday, March 24, 2013 in The Lutheran Church Of The Redeemer, 714 Riverdale Drive at 2:00 p.m. Interment, Bethany Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL.
Harry was born June 24, 1920 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of John Harry Harken and Lillian McCrary Harken. He graduated from Murray Vocational High School. Harry served with the United States Navy during World War II and was a Charter Member of The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer. He belonged to The Arion Society and was a former member of The Charleston Elks Lodge #242 BPOE. He retired as an Inspector with the SUPSHIPSIX, Charleston Naval Shipyard.
He is survived by his two sons, John Harry Harken, III (Dot) and Thomas Richard Harken (Martha); three grandchildren: Martha Ashley Harken, Brooks McBane Harken, and Margaret Conyers Harken, all of Charleston, SC.
