John Asa Hamrick, Jr. "Jack" died in the Laurens Hospital, Laurens, SC, on February 24, 2013. Jack was born in Charleston, SC, June 16, 1945, son of the late Rev. Dr. John A. Hamrick and Margaret Kelly Hamrick. Jack graduated from First Baptist High School. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church where he sang in the choir, was active in the Men's Bible Study, and participated in all church activities. He also worked at Delicious Delights Bakery sponsored by the Disabilities Board.
For the last eight years, Jack resided in Laurens at the Martha Franks Retirement Home. He joined First Baptist Church of Laurens where he continued his ministries of music, worship and Bible Study (having read through the Bible every year for the past 30 plus years). He always remembered his many family members and friends with cards and phone calls for all occasions. His strong Christian faith never wavered.
The family expresses their sincere appreciation to all the people of Martha Franks Retirement Center, First Baptist Church of Laurens, First Baptist Church of Charleston for all the love, support and friendship they shared with Jack over the years.
Survivors include; stepmother, Jane S. Ezell Hamrick of Charleston, SC; uncle, Dr. F. N. Hamrick (Nancy) of Charleston, SC; brother-in-law, Dr. John Hollingsworth (Ellen) of Charleston, SC; step sisters, Carol Ezell Gilson (Tom) of Charleston, SC, Mary Nance McDonough (Terrence) of Knoxville, TN; nephews, Diomede Hollingsworth (Mandy) of Fountain Inn, SC, Dr. John Hollingsworth (Lynn) of Anderson, SC; nieces, Dana H. Marchant (Rob) of Charleston, SC, Sarah H. Dunagan (Stobie) of Boone, NC; numerous cousins, grand nieces and nephews. Jack was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret H. "Peggy" Hollingsworth and his parents.
A memorial service was held in the Martha Franks Chapel (Laurens) Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at 6:30 pm. The funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church of Charleston Saturday, March 2, 2013 at 2:00 pm. The family will receive friends an hour before the service.
