John Charles George, 100, of Port Huron, Michigan entered into eternal rest on Thursday, September 18, 2025. His funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 24, 2025 in Grace United Methodist Church at 3:00 pm, and a reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. Burial will be in Beaufort National Cemetery. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel.
John was born September 20, 1924 in Port Huron, Michigan son of the late John Charles George. and Georgina Watson. John served in WWII, training with the 82nd Airborne and jumping into combat with the 101st completing a total of seven jumps, one into combat. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was the recipient of two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star. He is a published author and poet with his most notable work being his autobiography entitled “Death Cheaters”. He believed in the importance of veterans sharing their stories with others. He enjoyed listening to his favorite radio programs, and was concerned about the future of our country. His advice to future generations was, “to be grateful for the role models in your life, and be one for someone else.”
He is survived by his son Dale (Toni) George of Port Huron, MI; daughter, Gina (Steve) McDowell of Charleston, SC; granddaughters Elizabeth (Bradley) Biewer, Shelby McDowell, and grandsons Jared and Jonathan Wilquet. In addition to his parents, John was also preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Stein George; brother, Ken George; sister, Maureen Relken; and half-siblings, Wilson Russell, Harriet Turner, and Ruth Lesley and son, Douglas George.
