John Ashley Gable

August 22, 1942 — September 11, 2014

John "Jack" Ashley Gable, 72, of Hanahan, South Carolina, husband of Dhani Tjoa-Taniawati Gable passed away on Thursday, September 11, 2014. His Funeral Service be held at the graveside at 2:00 pm on Sunday, September 14, 2014 in the Live Oak Memorial Gardens, 3093 Ashley River Road. The family will receive friends Saturday, September 13, 2014 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in J. HENRY STUHR, INC. NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road, North Charleston.

Jack was born August 22, 1942 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late Carl I. Gable and Charlotte Kersey Gable. He was a graduate of Vanderbilt University and received his Masters Degree in Teaching from The Citadel. Jack was a colorful and charismatic teach of social science subjects in the high schools of Berkeley and Charleston Counties for many years until his retirement. He got his first taste of teaching when he was an instructor in political science at Georgia State University in Atlanta. He was an active supporter of the American Federation of Teachers and served as Vice President of its Charleston County Chapter in 1973-1974. He was also known for his talen and passion for writing, and he will always be remembered for his astonishing intellect and wit by all who knew him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Dhani Tjoa-Taniawati Gable; his daughter, Charlotte Shung Gable of Winston-Salem, NC; his brother, Carl I. Gable, Jr. of Atlanta, GA; his niece, Ashley G. Gable of Los Angeles, CA; and his two nephews, Carl I. Gable, III of Atlanta, GA and James K. Gable of Danville, CA.
