John Florie, age 69, of Moncks Corner, SC, passed away at his home on July 30, 2025 after a lengthy illness. At his bedside was his only child Patience Florie, who was his caregiver and whom he loved very much.
John Florie was born in North Charleston, SC on April 11, 1956 to Marion Pierce Florie and Eva Bettencourt Florie. His death was preceded by the death of his beloved wife Downette, who passed in 2015.
John graduated from North Charleston High School and went on to receive an Associates Degree in Business Management from Trident Technical College. John’s extensive work experience included associations with several military contractors, including Charleston Marine Containers, Force Protection, and Frontier Logistics. He retired as a Shipping and Receiving Supervisor in 2022. John Florie was happiest when he was fishing off his dock and riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycle and going to motorcycle rallies with his brother Robert. He played baseball in high school and was a lover of spectator sports particularly the Boston Red Sox baseball team and Miami Dolphins football team. John was also a talented musician who played bass guitar with the Blackwater Kings, a five piece band playing some of the Lowcountry’s finest rock, blues and country music.
John Florie is survived by his daughter Patience Florie, and his two brothers Marion Florie and Robert Florie, as well as several nieces and nephews. A memorial service for family and close friends will be held Friday, July 11, 2025 at the Aldersgate United Methodist Church 1444 Remount Rd, North Charleston, SC 29406 at 11:00 am. John will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him. He was fond of saying “The world is your oyster."
