Dr. John D. Fletcher, Jr.

Dr. John D. Fletcher, Jr., 85, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, July 27, 2024. His Memorial Service will be held Saturday, August 3, 2024 in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel at 4:00 pm, and the family will receive friends immediately following the service.

John was born July 12, 1939 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late John D. Fletcher and Louisa Tovey. John grew up in downtown Charleston, graduating from Charleston High School. He went on to graduate from the University of South Carolina before getting his M.D. at The Medical University of South Carolina. After finishing medical school, John served in the Air Force for two years before practicing pediatrics in Charleston. John later served as the Medical Director at The Coastal Center in Ladson, SC. He enjoyed spending time with family, gardening, travel, golf and Gamecock football. John had a great sense of humor and loved nothing more than telling a good joke.

He is survived by his sons, Andrew Fletcher (Stacy), and John Gregory Fletcher (Sally); daughter, Mary Emily Driver (Marty); ex-wife, Kathleen; and his sister, Marian McKinney. In addition, he is survived by grandchildren, Elias, Jackson, Elizabeth, and Gregory.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Karen; his brother, Richard and his significant other, Virginia Ruedger.
