John Jay Fletcher, CPO USN, Ret., 94, of North Charleston, South Carolina, husband of the late Doris Mae Woods McChesney Fletcher passed away on Thursday, June 19, 2014. His Funeral Service will be held at 9:30 AM Saturday, June 21, 2014 in the J. HENRY STUHR, INC. MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road. Interment will follow in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral chapel on Saturday, June 21, 2014 from 8:30 AM until the time of the service.
John was born in Payola, KS on January 14, 1920, son of the late James Virgil Fletcher, Sr. and Lillan Sandefer Fletcher. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and retired after 20 years of faithful service with the rank of Chief Petty Officer, and was a member of Northside Baptist Church in North Charleston, SC.
He is survived by his son, Robert Lee Fletcher of Winston-Salem, NC; his daughter, Nancy Jane Fletcher of Winston-Salem, NC; his grandchildren, Allison Fletcher of Windsor, VT, Robin Fletcher of Olympia, WA, Lindsey Fletcher of Charleston, SC, Landon Fletcher and his wife, Laura and their daughter, Alaina of Charleston, SC, and Samuel Jordan Fletcher of Columbia, SC. John is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Julie Fletcher Hottinger, wife of the late John Jay Fletcher, Jr.
