John Burton Dunbar

Dr. John Burton Dunbar, 91, of Folly Beach, South Carolina, husband of Ruby Berry Dunbar entered into eternal rest Wednesday, March 31, 2021. His funeral service will be held Friday, April 2, 2021 in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel, 232 Calhoun Street at 3:00 p.m. The family will receive friends Friday in the Downtown Chapel one hour prior to the service. The interment will be held Saturday, April 3, 2021 in Rigby Cemetery, Bowman, SC at 3:00 p.m.

John was born June 24, 1929 in Birmingham, Alabama, son of the late Collis Burton Dunbar and Unavay Gandy Dunbar. He was a Veteran of the Korean War and served as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force. Following military service John obtained a Doctorate Degree in Public Health from Tulane University and was a graduate of the University of Alabama school of Dentistry. He spent years as an extensive researcher in Dentistry and Epidemiology and served as the Vice President of Administration for the University of Alabama. John retired from the Medical University of South Carolina as a Professor.

John is survived by his wife of 68 years, Ruby of Folly Beach, SC; daughter, Inga Dunbar Arsenault (Robert) of Augusta, GA; grandson, Thorin Arsenault of Eureka, CA; and great-grandson, Thorin Arsenault.
