John Kevin Dewey, 72, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of Lydia Dewey, died on Monday, November 18, 2024, and he is now awaiting the resurrection of the dead. His graveside service is scheduled for Thursday, November 21, 2024, at Beaufort National Cemetery, located at 1601 Boundary Street, at 12:00 pm. Arrangements are being handled by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel.
Born on September 21, 1952, in Quincy, Massachusetts, John was the seventh child of the late George W. Dewey and the late Louise Dewey. He honorably served in the United States Army, a commitment that reflected his sense of duty and love for his country. After completing his military service, John attended wallpaper-school in Vermont and established his own wallpaper installation business, a testament to his entrepreneurial spirit and determination. Among his many talents, he had a particular fondness for hanging wallpaper, a skill that he took great pride in.
John was not only known for his craftsmanship but also for his mental strength and stick-to-itiveness. He enjoyed playing a game of pool and was really good at it. He is recognized for his steadfast commitment to providing for his family, often going above and beyond to ensure their happiness and well-being.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lydia; as well as his stepchildren, Jonathan Bouwer of South Africa, and Belinda Baker of Australia; and step-grandchildren Emma Baker and Daniel Baker. John also leaves behind his siblings : Annemarie, Billy, Marylou, Joan, Richard, Michael and Elaine, as well as his many much valued nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Tommy Dewey and Kathy McKinnon.
John Kevin Dewey will be remembered for his devotion to God and to family, his skillful hands, and his ability to bring steadfastness, thankfulness, comfort and kindness to those around him. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his loved ones and the many lives he touched throughout his journey.
