John "Johnny" Blease Courtney, Jr., 71, of North Charleston, SC, husband of Esther Lee Courtney died Saturday, November 8, 2014. His funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 12, 2014 in the Orange Grove Road Church of God of Prophecy, 952 Orange Grove Road at 1:00 pm. Interment, Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., North Area Chapel, 2119 Dorchester Road.
John was born February 24, 1943 in Kingstree, SC, son of the late John Blease Courtney Sr. and the late Addie Bradshaw Courtney. He was a builder in the construction business and a member of Orange Grove Road Church of God of Prophecy. Johnny attended Murray-Lasaine High School and was a US Army veteran. He served as a member of Charleston County Rescue Squad for 20 years and was Commissioner and Coach with North Charleston Parks and Recreation.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Esther Courtney; four daughters, Pamela Slay of Charleston, SC, Paula (Randy) Hadwin of Islandton, SC, Phyllis (Mack) Williamson of North Charleston, SC, Kristy (Nicky) Still of North Charleston, SC; ten Grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Frankie C. Hicks. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Patricia Floyd and Jacqueline Courtney.
