John Joseph "Joe" Cordray, 75, of North Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Catherine "Kitty" Reynolds Cordray, entered into eternal rest Thursday, October 4, 2012. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, October 6, 2012 in J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway at 9:30 am. Interment, Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Friday from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel.
Joe was born August 24, 1937 in Rock Hill, South Carolina, son of Daniel Cosmus Cordray and Hedwig Nowacki Cordray. He was a graduate of Bishop England High School 1954 and attended Southern Institute. Joe was a member of St. Thomas The Apostle Catholic Church, a 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus, U.S. Postal Letter Carriers Association, and the 1952 North Charleston All-Star Pony League World Series Championship Team. He was a baseball coach for several years at North Charleston playgrounds at Goodwin Elementary. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a Letter Carrier and served as a Constable for the City of North Charleston Municipal Court.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Catherine "Kitty" Cordray of North Charleston, SC, daughter, Karen R. Cordray of North Charleston, SC, son and daughter-in-law, Daniel A. (Sonya) Cordray of Pensacola, FL, son, John Joseph "Joey" Cordray, Jr. of Lexington, SC, and many nieces and nephews.
